Reporting Student Absences

Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, Glencoe School District 35 will use SafeArrival through the SchoolMessenger App,  a new student absence reporting system that makes it easier for families to report absences while helping schools respond more quickly when a student is unexpectedly absent.

How to report a student absence:        

With the SafeArrival system, parents and caregivers can report a child's absence three ways. 

1. SM Home mobile app

  • Download and install the SM Home app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store  
  • Tap Sign Up to create your account. (If you previously used the blue SMApp, you can sign in using the same credentials.)
  • If you are creating an account for the first time, you will be asked to verify your email address.
  • Select Attendance, then Report an Absence.
     

2. SafeArrival Website 

  • Visit home.schoolmessenger.com.
  • The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account.
  • Choose Attendance, then Report an Absence.
  • If you previously used go.schoolmessenger.com, you can sign in using the same login credentials.
     

3. Automated Phone System

  • Call the toll-free number (888) 907-4649.
  • Follow the prompts to report your child's absence.

These reporting options are available 24 hours a day,7 days a week, and future absences may be reported at any time. 


In addition, the district will use the SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents/guardians when a student is absent and the absence has not been reported in advance. The system will attempt to reach parents/guardians using multiple contact methods until a reason for the absence is provided. If we are unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up.

These are the dedicated numbers and accounts for absence communications from District 35. 


If you report your child's absence in advance using the SafeArrival mobile app, website, or toll-free phone number, you will not receive an absence notification.
