Title IX Requirements

Sexual harassment affects a student’s ability to learn and an employee’s ability to work. Providing an educational and workplace environment free from sexual harassment is an important District goal. The District does not discriminate on the basis of sex in any of its education programs or activities, and it complies with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) and its implementing regulations (34 C.F.R. Part 106) concerning everyone in the District’s education programs and activities, including applicants for employment, students, parents/guardians, employees, and third parties.

All District 35 employees complete annual training on the topic of sexual harassment. The District 35 Administrative team completed additional detailed training on the new Title IX requirements on November 13, 2020.

Environmental Testing

Water Quality Testing: The District received the third round of water quality testing results and we are pleased to share that all drinking sources, including water fountains and health office sinks, tested below the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). In fact, all of these sources also tested below the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) notification level of 5 ppb. Please read the District 35 letter for the full details of our update. Erin’s Law within District 35

In January 2013, the State of Illinois passed Erin’s Law which requires that children in grades pre-kindergarten through high school are educated on the topics of child sexual abuse awareness and prevention. In addition, all District 35 staff members are also trained on this topic and taught to recognize warning signs. Such training occurs annually prior to the student sessions in each school. Parents will be notified in writing prior to the student sessions to share additional details and provide an opportunity for questions.

DCFS will help determine the response needed and will involve law enforcement when appropriate. All District 35 staff members and Board of Education members are mandated reporters.
