Classroom Guidelines for
Science:

Welcome to 7th Grade Science.
This promises to be both an exciting and challenging year for all of you. Along with all the benefits that go along with the seventh grade, like greater independence, more control of your own learning and more extracurricular activities, there is also a greater level of expectation for you as a student.
In order to make this as productive a year as possible, it is vital you pay close adherence to all the following guidelines. These will ensure that you get the most out of this class and are adequately prepared for the years ahead.
1) Pay attention during class and take thorough notes. Any topic discussed during class is your responsibility and can show up on a test or quiz. Lecture and lab notes will also be checked periodically and graded.
2) Use your assignment notebooks faithfully. With increased homework load, it is easy to loose track of assignments and due dates. For this class, all work is to be completed on time. Any late assignments will automatically be deducted 20% from the grade. If the assignment is 1 week late, it will loose 50%, and if it is more than 1 week late, it will not be accepted and counted as a "zero."
3) All assignments are to be either typed or written in pen in your neatest writing.
4) Sloppy, messy, torn, incomplete or doodled assignments will not be graded.
5) Keep all your graded assignments. They can be used for studying and easily recovered if there is a discrepancy about your grade.
6) Copying someone else’s work is considered cheating. All work is to be done individually unless specifically indicated that students may work together in pairs or small groups. If two assignments are turned in with the exact same answers, both will be marked as “zero.”
7) All assignments are to have the standard heading in the upper right corner.
First Name, Last Name, Period
Date
8) If you are absent for class, it is your responsibility to get the information you missed. If on the day you’re absent you miss a lab or activity, schedule make-up time either before school, or after school. You will be given a 1 day grace period when you return to get caught up on missing work..
9) If you leave for a vacation during the school year, you will not be given extra work to take with you. You will need to make up all the work after you return.
10) There will be no extra credit assignments given.
11) Gum or snacks are not to be brought into the room—ever!
12) Use the bathroom during your passing periods. If you are afraid of being late for class, come to class and let me know where you are going and you will not be marked tardy (as long as you aren’t more than a few minutes). However, if you do not ask first, you will be marked tardy. You will be allowed ONE emergency pass each quarter. After that, you will not be permitted to leave the classroom for any reason. Do not even ask if you can get a drink.
13) Students are not permitted to use the classroom phone. Don’t ask!
14) Remember to bring all your supplies. Once the bell rings, you will not be allowed to go back to your locker.
15) Tardies will be documented. If you are late to class three times, you will spend time with me either before school or after school.
16) Lab stations are to be thoroughly cleaned, with all supplies returned to their proper place, before students are allowed to go to their next class.
17) Any misuse of equipment or failure to adhere to safety guidelines will result in varying degrees of consequences based on the severity of the act. Remember, you signed a contract!
