| 2011 Veterans Day | On Thursday, November 10, Central School celebrated and honored all the men and women who have served in our military. The program included presentations from two Naval Officers and two Marines. The speakers were powerful and thought provoking, and each spoke of service, freedom and the importance of being a good citizen. In addition to the presentations, all students completed a service project that will be distributed to various organizations serving active or retired military. |
| 2011 Wilderness Classroom Assembly | On Wednesday, November 16, our fifth and sixth grade students attended an assembly highlighting The North American Odyssey's latest adventures. The speakers traveled from the Pacific Northwest to the Florida Keys by kayak, dogsled and on foot. |
| 2012 Debate Club Meet | The students did a fabulous job at the meet on April 25th. They were respectful, clear, organized, thoughtful, absorbed critics, and worked as a team. |
| 2012 Science Olympiad Team | Congratulations to our Central School Science Olympiad team on their 4th place finish at the state tournament. |

| 5th Grade Visits Mitchell Museum | The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian is the only museum in the Chicagoland area that focuses exclusively on the history, culture, and arts of the North American native people. This field trip reinforced units of instruction in the fifth grade social studies curriculum. |

| Building a Bridge Project | Eighth grade students in Mr. Sitz's science class built a balsa wood bridge to calculate efficiency. A bucket hung from the bridge and sand was added until either the bridge broke or the bucket was full, approximately 30 pounds. |

| Central School Carnival | Our first annual carnival was sponsored by our Student Council. |
| Central School Jazz Night | Our sixth - eighth grade jazz band, along with a few alumni, performed in this years jazz night. Congratulations to our students, Mrs. Hanna, and Mr. Pickett for a wonderful performance. |

| Field Museum Visits 6th Grade | Sixth grade students had an opportunity to experience first hand rituals of ancient civilizations. In conjunction with the social studies curriculum, a representative of the Field Museum came to Central School to provide a more in depth look at mummification. |
| Fourth Annual Health Challenge Bowl | Twenty-five 5th and 6th grade students participated in the 4th Annual Health Challenge Bowl on Friday, May 6th. The students played a health jeopardy game in Misner Auditorium for the 5th and 6th graders. The categories for the game included: phobias, human organs, kitchen safety, and childhood illnesses. The participants spent 10 weeks preparing for the game, getting together once a week during Advisory. Mr. Skibbe (PE teacher at Central School) was master of ceremonies, while Mrs. Tyre (7th and 8th grade Health teacher) and Mrs. Kovar (nurse at South School) hosted this event. Guest judges included Mrs. Ross (nurse at Central School), Mr. Glassman (social worker at Central School), and Officer O’Sullivan (Glencoe Public Safety). |
| Halloween Candy Buy Back | Our students generously donated excess Halloween candy which was given to the Chicago Food Depository. |
| Hero Poems | Seventh grade students in Mrs. Geier's Elements of Writing Class composed and presented poems about their personal hero. Many parents, grandparents, and family members would be touched by the words of the students. |
| Music in our School Presentation | Our Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Band performed at the March Board of Education meeting in honor of "Music in our Schools" month. |

| Pen Pal Visit | Our seventh graders had lunch with their second grade pen pals from South School. They will meet again in May. |

| Water Safety Program | The fifth grade physical education unit on water safety concluded with students practicing water safety skills in the New Trier High School pool. |
| Word Market | For several weeks prior to the Word Market, Mr. Ruffino and Mrs. Tolzien's class "researched" the parts of speech. These parts of speech were then bought and sold at the Annual Word Market in order to create fun, descriptive, and grammatically correct sentences. |
