The monthly meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is held in Young Auditorium at Central School.

Board Member Appplications Being Accepted
It is with sadness and gratitude that the school community bids farewell to Dr. Greg Makoul. Dr. Makoul has resigned his position from the Glencoe School District Board of Education and will be moving out of state with his family. One year remains in Dr. Makoul’s term.

The Board of Education is currently accepting applications and will conduct interviews to fill the vacancy created by Dr. Greg Makoul’s resignation. One year remains in Dr. Makoul’s term. The Board will take action to fill this vacancy at the regular monthly meeting scheduled for June 9, 2008. The appointee will begin his/her role as a Board of Education Member at the June 9th meeting.

Board Meeting Highlights - April 28, 2008
  • The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
  • There were no public comments during the first scheduled opportunity.
  • Reorganization of the Board of Education was conducted.
  • Following approval of the officers a motion was made, seconded and approved to set the regular meeting dates of the Board of Education of Glencoe Schools as the second Monday of the month.
  • The Board Committee assignments were reviewed.
  • Mr. Bailey, recognized the P.T.O. co-presidents and G.E.F. Officers for their work and organizations contributions throughout the school year.
  • The Board also recognized Dr. Greg Makoul’s service to the school district. Dr. Makoul officially resigned from his position from the Glencoe School District Board of Education as he and his family will be moving out of state.
  • During administrator reports Mr. Tanner described the use of P-Cards and the methods used to track these expenditures.
    Mrs. Wang informed the Board of a parent request to place a mosaic bench in the South School courtyard.
    Dr. Crawford reviewed the 2007 graduate survey responses.
  • Mr. Tanner indicated the March 2007 End Fund Balance was $13,657,021.18.
  • The Board was informed of a Freedom of Information Act request regarding dismissal of tenured teachers during the past five years.
  • Mr. Tanner reported the End Fund balance for February 2008 as $12,641,841.76
  • Approval was given for the April Bill List and Personnel Report.
  • The Board approved changes to the several policies.
  • The Board approved a modified school calendar for 2008-2009.
  • Approval was given for several voluntary, anonymous surveys of district students.
  • The Board approved the request for a 7th grade student to continue attending 8th grade as a tuition student during the 2008-2009 school year.
  • During the second opportunity for public comments, Michelle Gooze-Miller thanked Dr. Makoul for his service to the school community. Nancy Shaw and Beth Jacobson commented on the Freshman Survey and offered suggestions for future surveys.
  • Committee reports included a report on negotiations, Facilities Committee meeting and NSSED construction planning.
  • The Board adjourned.
  • The next meeting of the Board is May 12, 2008. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Young Auditorium at Central School.

You are invited to the meetings of the Board of Education. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. at Central School. It will be held in Young Auditorium. Each agenda provides a time for "Public Comments" when citizens may address the Board.
