 Question
What is a Property Tax Cap and what are the implications for the school district?

 Answer
Under Illinois law the Board of Education is limited in the amount it can increase property taxes without seeking voter approval. This limit is commonly referred to as the property tax cap. It was enacted by the Illinois legislature in 1991.

The law allows the Board of Education to increase operating tax revenue annually by the lesser of two amounts- either a flat 5% or the Consumer Price Index (CPI) level. For example, if the current revenue was $10,000,000 and CPI was at 2% the new money received by the school district from property taxes would be $200,000.

 Question
Who should I contact if I have a concern regarding my child?

 Answer
When a parent has a concern about their child, the classroom environment, or something that has occurred in the classroom setting they should first contact the teacher. If after that meeting or conversation concerns remain, the parent should then contact the building principal.

 Question
Can I request a teacher for my child?

 Answer
No, parents are asked to refrain from requesting a specific teacher. However, parents may provide the current teacher and/or principal with information concerning their child's social, emotional, or academic development. This information is considered in creating class assignments. If parents have unique or special information that would impact the placement process it should be forwarded to the principal or current teacher by the first Friday in April.
