Thu Apr 10, 2008 Le Club Français On March 10 French Club met. We started off with some treats of Orangina and biscuits français called Genève, Bruxelles and Bordeaux. After our "goûter", we watched an exerpt from Antoine de St. Exupéry's story of "Le Petit Prince". We talked about how the little prince tamed the fox and after doing so successsfully, the fox shared an important secret. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." We then went to work on making friendship bracelets. Everyone tried their hand at it and voilà!
Mon Mar 17, 2008 Celebrating Modern Languages For Modern Language Week, all the seventh and eighth graders were treated to a performance of flamenco dancers. We all now have a much greater appreciation for anyone who can play castanets, clap and dance at the same time. During the week, the announcements were introduced in modern languages such as German, Greek and Spanish. The showcase outside the front office was filled with francophone and hispanic items. In the language classrooms, you could see such activities as playing verb bingo, collages being created, labeling large stick figures with clothes and vocabulary words for the garments, creating menus or a rabbi speaking about life in Argentina. The pièce de résistance was an International Tasting for all modern language students. For the tasting, students were encouraged to bring food from countries other than the United States, France, Spain or Mexico. Everyone tasted at least one new dish. It was a fun week of changing the routine and taking time out to celebrate and appreciate other languages and cultures. Here are some of the pictures from the celebration. Enjoy!
Wed Feb 13, 2008 Heureuse St. Valentin French Club celebrated Valentine's Day with sweet treats and by making valentines with messages in French. Once the students were finished with their valentine creations, they played a game with their valentine vocabulary. See for yourself the valentine works of art that were created!
Tue Jan 29, 2008 Un Défilé de Mode All of the eighth grade French students chose a partner and presented a fashion show (un défilé de mode) in French. Each student was a model and a moderator. They dressed in clothing using the vocabulary they had recently learned in class. They used words such as: une écharpe (a scarf), un chapeau (a hat), une casquette ( a cap), une veste (a blazer), un pantalon (pants), des lunettes de soleil (some sun glasses), un blouson (a jacket), des chaussures (some shoes) et des chaussettes (some socks). A good time was had by all. Here are the pictures from our “Défilé de Mode”, we hope you enjoy them! Wed Dec 12, 2007 Le Club Français French Club members created original Bûches de Noël (Yule log cakes) using HoHos, frosting and cake decorations. As you can see, they did a wonderful job and had even more fun eating their creations. We then went to the LLC to play French games on the computers (about.com). Everyone had a lot of fun!
Mon Nov 19, 2007 National French Week In honor of National French Week, we rented an amazing exhibit of paintings done on silk by Georges Seurat. We spent time talking about the artist, his technique and his works of art. Also during National French Week, we had Fromage, Fruits et Biscuits (salés ou sucrés) in class to celebrate. Voilà quelques photos de nos fêtes! Wed Oct 31, 2007 Halloween Halloween is always a fun time of the year. People in France celebrate much the same as we do here, however, they also celebrate Le Toussaint on November 1 and Le Jour des Morts on November 2. Le Toussaint is the day when the saints of the Catholic church are recognized and Le Jour des Morts is a day similar to our Memorial Day when everyone decorates the tombs or graves of loved ones. Madame Kane's 6th grade students celebrated with a Monster Contest and playing games with our Halloween vocabulary on October 31. Seventh and eighth graders celebrated by playing games with Halloween vocabulary. Please enjoy the pictures taken on Halloween! ![]()
