Jazz bands have started and the students are doing a great job already.
6th grade jazz band meets on Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:40-8:15am. Right now they are working on songs titled, "Roger the Dodger", "Tyrannosaurus Charlie" and "Rock the House".
7/8th grade jazz band meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:40-8:15am. They are working on songs titled "Sweet and Sassy", "The Preacher Man", and "Blue n' Moody".
We've got some great things lined up already for the jazz bands this year. 7/8th grade jazz band will once again perform at the New Trier Jazz Fest on Saturday February 4th.
The biggest announcement for the jazz bands this year is that Chris Madsen, Chicago jazz musician (Tenor Saxophone, http://chrismadsen.net/bio/), Northwestern University Jazz Faculty, and Midwest Young Artists Jazz director will be joining us on April 12th to perform with the Central School Jazz Bands. The morning of April 12th he'll give a short clinic and rehearse with the 7/8th jazz band and then perform with us in the evening. It will definitely be an exciting, educational and memorable day for the jazz students here at Central School. More information will come soon as the Jazz Concert approaches.
