Fri Oct 23, 2009 For Freedom or Profit? Simulation Humanities spent much of the last week involved in a colonial simulation titled "For Freedom or Profit?". Students worked in groups to determine the purpose of their colonies, the rules governing the colonies, how the colony would support itself, the location and layout of the colony, and various other factors. Thu Sep 11, 2008 Chain of Remembrance The reality of living in a time of war seemed to be getting lost in our daily lives, so I approached my advisory with the idea of creating a visual reminder of the fact that there are men and women dying each day, thousands of miles away in our name. Brilliantly, my advisees came up with the idea of creating a paper chain, with a link to signify each U.S. soldier who has died in the War in Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. We decided to name the project “Chain of Remembrance.” Our intention is to honor those who have fallen and to have a visual reminder of those (military and civilian) whose lives are at risk in Iraq and Afghanistan every day. This is not meant as a political statement in support or against U.S. war efforts, but an acknowledgement of the sacrifices of those involved. We will continue to add links and the course of events in these armed conflicts play out, with the hope that we will soon be able to move on to another project. More... |
